The Holy Work of Rest & Play

The Lord never said life would be easy. Life hits us all and sometimes the blows of life can knock the wind out of you and take the joy out of life. Many of us see rest and fun as luxuries to be had only after we have worked our fingers to the bone and taken care of everyone else.

Work hard. Hustle. Grind. Then, do it again tomorrow! This is what so many of us have subscribed to throughout our lives.

And, it's exhausting! Can you relate?

We are adamant about following the scriptures that pertain to work yet we slide by the ones that call us to rest and enjoy the life we have been given. Who's willing to admit that they even make excuses for not resting and just having fun?

“There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his.” -Hebrews 4:9-10 (NIV)

Rest is not a suggestion. It’s a requirement and a right.

As daughters of The King, we are required to steward all that God gives us, including our bodies and minds. It is also our birthright to receive the rest He offers us. And despite popular belief, we as Christians, do not have to wait until we are on the other side to enjoy the fruit of our labor. It is a gift for right now.

“I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God.” -Ecclesiastes 3:12-13 (NIV)
